What's going on in Sudan?
- Currently, there is a voting in Southern Sudan on whether it is going to remain as a pat of Sudan or is going to be independent. Recently oil has been discovered in Southern Sudan, and Northern Sudan who has the power of the country wants the oil, while Southern Sudan just wants to be left alone. Many people in Southern Sudan want independence, but they are also scared of war. What is in doubt is whether Northern Sudan will accept the result of the voting, for they will not benefit from the seperation of Southern Sudan.
Why should you care?
- We should care because this is a country that has been involved in war for decades. People of Sudan don't want any more war, and the South wants to be free from the North who want their (the South's) oil. By caring, we are helping.
What can you do?
- All we have to do is very simple; we just need to watch what is going on. We can watch the news, or read the newspaper. What would be even better is if we can let them (the U.S. government) that we know what's going on and that we care. On the 'Take Action' section of
http://www.sudanactionnow.com/ there is a letter you can sign that is directed to President Obama. It takes less than a minute and every single name counts. Do what you can. Help out.
